Medical Radiation Physics is a multidisciplinary field where physics and radiation applications intersect with biology and medicine, with the human being at the center. Our activities encompass research and education in both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, as well as their medical applications in radiation therapy, diagnostic radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and nuclear medicine. Our research covers a broad spectrum, ranging from fundamental scientific studies to clinically applied research conducted in close collaboration with healthcare providers. The department is responsible for the five-year Medical Physics program, a professional degree regulated by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare, which qualifies graduates to work as licensed medical physicists.
The Nuclear Medicine Physics Research Group primarily focuses on radiation dose calculations for treatments involving radiopharmaceuticals. The overall aim is to understand the relationship between radiation dose and tumor response, as well as the risk of adverse effects in patients undergoing oncological treatment, and to enable dosimetry-guided therapy. As part of this work, the research group develops advanced methods for image-based quantification of radiopharmaceutical concentrations in organs and tumors. The group maintains an extensive international network and is represented in international medical physics organizations. Software developed by the group is currently used by researchers worldwide.
Type of employment:
Fixed-term position, 6 years, in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12a of the Higher Education Ordinance, with the opportunity for promotion to senior lecturer.

Job description

An appointment as Associate Senior Lecturer is a tenure-track position aimed at developing the holder’s independence as a researcher and educator.
The Faculty of Science offers a
career programme for associate senior lecturers
.
To support the establishment of a research group, resources corresponding to a doctoral studentship will be linked to the position.
The duties primarily comprise research and teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. The position includes teaching responsibilities currently corresponding to 10-30% of full-time employment, averaged over the entire appointment period. In addition, service assignments within the department or faculty may be required. The content of the duties, as well as the distribution and extent of research and teaching responsibilities, may change over time.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain, strengthen, and further develop the department’s research in nuclear medicine physics, and to establish an active research program that complements and enhances the existing research expertise. We would highly value the employee further developing the theragnostic approach to individualized radionuclide therapy. The duties also include actively seeking external research funding and collaborating with researchers, medical physicists, and physicians at Skåne University Hospital, for example within Radiation Physics, Oncology, and Diagnostic Imaging and Functional Medicine, in clinically related research projects.
Within their area of expertise, the candidate will primarily teach in the Medical Physics Programme, as well as take responsibility for courses and contribute to their development. Teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels in other departments may also occur. In collaboration with other members of the research group, the candidate will be responsible for and contribute to the development of doctoral-level courses in nuclear medicine physics and related fields. Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students is included in the position.
