Description: Considers education as a concept and practice influenced by values (ethical, religious, aesthetic, cultural, political, etc.). Includes a critical examination of selected approaches to values education. This course is not Team Taught or offered online. Course term: Winter 2027 Course Credits: 3 Course Schedule: Mondays, 05:35 pm-08:25 pm Location: SH680 451 Appointment dates: December 21, 2026 - April 30, 2026 Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs): Education: 1.Master educator with an MA in a relevant field (e.g. philosophy of education, moral and/or political philosophy, educational ethics) 2.Experience as an educator in the pre-K to graduation or higher education sectors is an asset 3.PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset Experience: Expert knowledge of: - Main philosophical theories of ethics, political philosophy and value theory – including but not limited to those from Western analytic and continental philosophical traditions, such as: - moral philosophy, social and political philosophy, aesthetics, feminist philosophy, critical philosophy of race and the philosophy of religion - Traditions and approaches that apply philosophical theories of ethics to questions and problems of educational theory, practice and policy, including consequentialist and non-consequentialist theories of ethics - The field of educational ethics and associated methodologies such as normative case studies - Familiarity with contemporary theoretical approaches that employ interdisciplinary perspectives on moral education (e.g. philosophy and developmental psychology; non-ideal ethical theory). Other: 1.Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the graduate level. 2.Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion 3.Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences 4.Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset 5.Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools Other information: 1.Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors. 2.Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of course start date Posting Period: October 1- October 15, 2026 Deadline to apply: October 15 (11:59 PM) Before applying, please note that to work at McGill University, you must be both authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
