Hiring Unit: Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) Course code and title: EDES 334-001. Teaching Secondary Social Studies 1. Description: An examination of Quebec and other secondary school social studies curricula: Objectives; theoretical orientation; course structures; curriculum resources. Teaching and learning methodologies both common to the social studies and specific to the disciplines of history, geography, and economics. This course is not Team taught or offered online. Term: Winter 2027 Course Credits: 3 Location: Education Building (EDUC 211) Schedule: Friday, 02:35 pm-05:25 pm Appointment dates: December 21, 2026 - April 30, 2027 Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs): Education: 1. Master educator with an MA in a relevant field (i.e. social studies education, social studies teaching and learning) and/or extensive relevant experience as a school educator/teacher/pedagogue 2. PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset Experience: 1.Expert knowledge of: - Methods of teaching the social studies curriculum in the secondary schools of Quebec - Disciplinary underpinnings of the main area(s) of inquiry in the social studies and the ways in which they can be taught for meaning and understanding - The epistemological workings of at least one main discipline underlying the social studies (history) - A diverse range of approaches, methods, and strategies for the teaching of social studies (history) 2. Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the undergraduate or graduate level 3. Experience as a history/social studies teacher/educator in the Quebec educational system Other: 1.Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion 2.Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences 3.Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset 4.Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools 5.Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation Posting Period: October 1-15, 2026 Deadline to apply: October 15 (11:59 PM) Before applying, please note that to work at McGill University, you must be both authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located.
