DC 11: Demonstration of MEMS Space–Time Interfaces in the THz Regime

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) Department of Applied Physics Eindhoven, Netherlands

About the position

Doctoral Candidate position at the Department of Applied Physics, Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands

Objectives:

  • Develop high-speed MEMS arrays with subwavelength pixel pitch
  • Design electrostatic and electrothermal actuation mechanisms for dynamic space–time modulation
  • Demonstrate GHz-rate two-dimensional spatiotemporal beamforming

During the thesis, the candidate will develop core expertise in the design, fabrication, and characterization of high-speed MEMS-based space–time interfaces for THz wavefront control, including MEMS actuation, GHz spatiotemporal modulation, THz optical characterization, and nonreciprocal beam steering. This expertise will be further strengthened through secondments at UNamur (theoretical modelling of GHz space–time interfaces) and TNO (THz mode (de)multiplexing and system-level characterization).

Starting date: February 2027

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in fields of Applied Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science & Engineering etc.
  • You should not have a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment.
  • You must not have resided or carried out your main activity (work, studies, etc.) in The Netherlands for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the recruitment (this is a requirement from the funding authority).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
