## Associate Professor of Live Electronics / Music Technology Associate Professor of Live Electronics / Music Techonology ## About the Position The position is a 50% permanent role available from 1 August 2027. The primary area of expertise for the position is music technology, with an emphasis on live electronics in a broad genre-based context. Artistic qualifications and practical experience in the use of music technology for composition and real-time music performance are emphasised. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate strong abilities to contextualise their academic work within both aesthetic and historical perspectives of music. The responsibilities include teaching and supervising students, artistic development work, and administrative tasks related to the academic activities within the department. The successful candidate is also expected to actively contribute to strengthening artistic and academic collaboration with colleagues. Teaching and Supervision The teaching responsibilities encompass instruction and supervision in live electronics, the use of music technology in performance and composition, as well as individual supervision at the bachelor's and master's levels, in accordance with current curricula. The appointee will also lead the continuing education programme in live electronics. The successful candidate is expected to participate in academic administrative tasks and engage actively in collaboration with colleagues. Additionally, they will take the initiative to plan and lead seminars and courses in collaboration with other faculty members within the Department of Composition and Music Technology. The appointee will also participate in the preparation and execution of the institution's entrance examinations and final assessments. The candidate is required to actively participate in the Academy's efforts to digitalise teaching in line with its strategic goals. Regular presence at the institution is expected, including the ability to provide weekly teaching sessions. Research and Development The Associate Professor of Live Electronics is required to maintain a high artistic standard, primarily through their own artistic practice and participation in research and development projects. The appointee is expected to actively contribute to strengthening research and development activities, as well as the academic environment at the institution, in line with the Academy's strategic objectives. The research resources allocated to the position are to be utilised systematically and directed primarily towards institutionally relevant projects. Administrative Duties The appointee will participate in academic administrative tasks within their subject area and contribute to the administrative responsibilities of the institution as a whole. Qualifications To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate a high level of artistic expertise as a composer and/or performer, with a focus on live electronics. Emphasis will be placed on genre diversity and innovation within their artistic practice. Applicants are required to document: - Their own artistic work where live electronics and the use of music technology in real-time performance constitute a significant element. - Advanced proficiency in the use of MAX and Ableton Live. - Advanced knowledge of artistic work involving microprocessors and sensor/interaction technology. - Strong music theoretical knowledge. - Teaching and supervisory experience at a high education level. - Experience in the use of digital teaching tools. Applicants are also encouraged to describe areas where they possess exceptional expertise or areas where they have broad experience and extensive practice that may be relevant to the position. These may include: - The use of other software such as Csound, SuperCollider, Reaper, or similar programs for composition, music production, sound generation, sound processing, and performance. - Experience and knowledge of other digital media, such as image, video, or related fields. - Collaborative projects with other forms of artistic expression. - Project management. Proficiency or skills in traditional Western art music are desirable. The appointed candidate must have proficiency in Norwegian at a minimum of level B2 or commit to achieving such proficiency within three years of appointment. The academy will provide language training. Proficiency in Swedish or Danish is considered equivalent to Norwegian. Much of the teaching is conducted in English, and strong oral and written communication skills in English are required. In assessing candidates, special consideration will be given to specific qualifications, attributes, and experiences relevant to the responsibilities of the position, including the ability to collaborate, take initiative, and implement planned projects. Applicants must submit a systematic and comprehensive account of their teaching qualifications, based on education, course participation, and/or practical teaching experience, as an attachment to their application. It is a requirement for all associate professors to have developed strong skills in planning, executing, evaluating, and developing teaching and supervision through practical teaching experience, as well as through completion of a university-level pedagogical program (minimum 200 hours) or equivalent relevant courses. The requirement for completing such a program will not be emphasized in the ranking of applicants, but candidates who do not meet this requirement at the time of appointment will be required to do so within two years of employment. The Academy will provide the necessary courses. Applications will be evaluated by an expert committee. The primary emphasis will be on the submitted documentation of artistic and pedagogical qualifications. Initially, only applications with CVs and any attachments such as references, diplomas, and descriptions of pedagogical qualifications should be submitted via the electronic application portal. Following a preliminary assessment, selected candidates will be asked to submit additional documentation of artistic qualifications and other relevant materials. Documentation in physical formats, including audio and video recordings, must be submitted in four copies. The position is remunerated according to the main collective agreements in the state as an Associate Professor, with a starting salary ranging from NOK 775,000 to NOK 850,000 in a full-time position. For particularly qualified candidates, a higher salary may be considered. A statutory contribution of 2 % to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted. The position is subject to the regulations governing employees at the Norwegian Academy of Music.
