You will find more information about working at NTNU and the application process here. ## About the position The Faculty of Humanities is announcing up to 7 PhD research fellow positions. The goal of a PhD research fellow position is to complete a PhD education. We refer to NTNU's guidelines for recruitment positions for more information about the job category. This call does not include the PhD programme in artistic research. A call for proposals for artistic research will be announced in a separate call. Applicants must align their application with one of the faculty's research groups listed on our website. The applicant must therefore contact the relevant group and find a possible main supervisor well in advance of the application deadline. Remember that the response time may vary, due to holidays, beginning of the semester etc. The intended main supervisor must be employed at one of the faculty's departments and be part of the research group to which affiliation is sought. The supervisor must also satisfy the requirements for supervision at doctoral level in the PhD Regulations (Norwegian text only). The Faculty of Humanities hosts four scientific PhD programmes: Humanities and the Arts, Historical and Cultural Studies, Language and Linguistics and Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture. Your immediate manager will be the head of department. ## Required selection criteria To be qualified for the advertised positions, you must - be eligible for admission to the PhD programme, which will normally mean that you have an academically relevant master's degree that includes a major independent work corresponding to a master's thesis of at least 30 credits. Your course of study must be equivalent to a five-year Norwegian course, where 120 credits have been achieved at master's level - have an average grade from the master's degree programme, or equivalent education, that is equal to B or better compared to NTNU's grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you have a weaker grade background or a master's thesis of less scope, you may be considered if you can document that you are particularly suitable for a PhD education. In that case, such documentation must be attached to the application - have very good oral and written presentation skills in English PLEASE NOTE: For detailed information about what the application must contain, see paragraph “About the application”. In accordance with the Regulations concerning terms and conditions of employment, former PhD research fellows at NTNU are not eligible for the positions regardless of field of study. Applications from candidates who already have an approved doctorate from other institutions, either nationally or internationally, will also not be considered. ## Personal characteristics As a PhD research fellow, you must have - the ability to work in a structured, systematic and goal-oriented manner - good communication and collaboration skills - motivation to contribute to a good working environment, both academically and socially - ability to follow through. The project description is the most important element in the evaluation of the applicants. It will also be crucial that the project can be carried out within the nominal 3 years for the PhD education, where 1/2 year is set aside for the training part of the programme. It will also be assessed whether the project will contribute to achieving the host institute's academic development goals. The successful applicant commits to completing the PhD education within the appointment period and the available resources. The applicant must therefore demonstrate that they will have access to the necessary equipment and infrastructure to complete the project. A 2% statutory contribution to the State Pension Fund is deducted from the salary. The employment period is 3 years, but career-enhancing work may be considered added to some of the positions, depending on the needs of the departments. The successful candidates will be granted conditional admission to the relevant doctoral programmes when employed in the PhD research fellow positions at the Faculty of Humanities. It is a prerequisite that the requirements of the conditional admission are met within three months, and that you continue to participate in the organised doctoral programme for the remainder of the employment period. As an employee at NTNU, it is important that you keep yourself up to date with academic and organizational changes and adapt to them. For the necessary academic and social interaction, it is a prerequisite that you are physically present and available to the institution on a daily basis. The appointment is carried out in accordance with the principles of the State Employees Act, and Export control (legislation that regulates the export of knowledge, technology and services).
