About the research centre or Inria department The Inria Grenoble research center groups together almost 600 people in 27 research teams and 8 research support departments. Staff is present on three campuses in Grenoble, in close collaboration with other research and higher education institutions (University Grenoble Alpes, CNRS, CEA, INRAE, …), but also with key economic players in the area. Inria Grenoble is active in the fields of high-performance computing, verification and embedded systems, modeling of the environment at multiple levels, and data science and artificial intelligence. The center is a top-level scientific institute with an extensive network of international collaborations in Europe and the rest of the world. Context The successful candidate will join the Thoth project team ( https://thoth.inrialpes.fr/ ) within the Inria Centre at Université Grenoble Alpes ( https://www.inria.fr/en/inria-center-universite-grenoble-alpes ) to work under the supervision of Adrien Taylor and Scott Pesme. Assignment The successful candidate will implement and compare different parallel and stochastic numerical optimization paradigms accurately study the selected algorithms, participate in the development and maintenance of the PEPit ( https://pepit.readthedocs.io/ ) software package, including adding functionalities related to parallel optimization, Main activities Implementation and benchmark of numerical optimization algorithms. Software maintenance and development. Read scientific reports. Write scientific reports. Skills Technical skills and level required: master's level in computer science, mathematics, applied mathematics, or engineering. Languages: English. Relational skills: easy communication, sociable with an appetite for working in a group. Additional skills appreciated: rigorous, organized, curious, autonomous, proactive and dynamic. A specialization in optimization, machine learning, statistical learning or game theory is appreciated. Research experience is a plus.
