About the position
The BioTranslation Lab (BTL) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, affiliated with the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, is recruiting postdoctoral fellows to lead interdisciplinary projects in biomaterials, drug delivery, and immunoengineering.
Led by Nitin Joshi, Ph.D., BTL develops materials and delivery technologies that address unmet medical needs. Our research connects chemistry, materials science, biology, engineering, and medicine, advancing technologies from fundamental design and mechanistic investigation through in vivo validation and toward clinical application.
Available positions
1. Chemistry and Materials Science for Long-Acting Therapeutics
The fellow will lead the synthesis and characterization of novel materials and formulation strategies for long-acting injectable and implantable delivery systems. Potential applications include infectious-disease prevention and treatment, substance use disorder, hormonal therapy, and organ transplantation.
Candidates should hold, or be nearing completion of, a Ph.D. or equivalent in chemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering, materials science, polymer science, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field.
Relevant experience may include:
- Polymer synthesis and characterization
- Controlled-release formulations or long-acting drug delivery
- Release kinetics, degradation, and mechanical or rheological characterization
- Scalable formulation or fabrication processes
- In vitro and in vivo pharmacokinetic evaluation
2. Immunology and Immunoengineering
The fellow will lead mechanistic studies of the immunological dimensions of BTL’s therapeutic platforms, including immunomodulation, neuroinflammation, and host responses to biomaterials and delivery systems. These studies will guide improvements in therapeutic safety and efficacy.
Candidates should hold, or be nearing completion of, a Ph.D. or equivalent in immunology, microbiology, molecular or cellular biology, or a related field. Prior experience in materials science or drug delivery is welcome but not required.
Relevant experience may include:
- Immune responses to biomaterials, nanoparticles, or delivery platforms
- Experimental models of immunomodulation or neuroinflammation
- Flow cytometry, cytokine profiling, single-cell approaches, or related assays
- Mechanistic studies connecting immune responses with therapeutic performance
- Collaboration with materials and drug-delivery researchers
Why join BTL?
Fellows will have opportunities to take scientific ownership of ambitious projects, work closely with scientific and clinical collaborators across Harvard, MIT, Mass General Brigham, and the Broad Institute, and pursue research with a clear translational focus. We support publications, conference presentations, independent fellowship applications, and career development.
We seek curious, creative, and rigorous scientists who demonstrate initiative, communicate clearly, and enjoy collaborating across disciplines. A strong publication record is valued, with accomplishments considered in the context of each candidate’s opportunities, field, and career stage.
