Job Description

The Theoretical Particle Physics Group at Northeastern University offers a two-year IAIFI Postdoctoral Research Associate position for fall 2027, with the opportunity to extend for a third year subject to funding. The group consists of Ning Bao, James Halverson, Sarah Harrison, Pran Nath, Brent Nelson, Fabian Ruehle, and Tomasz Taylor, covering research topics in string theory, quantum information, AdS/CFT, machine learning, supersymmetry and supergravity, cosmology, and amplitudes. In addition, there will be the opportunity to interact with members of the Mathematics Department and the CS Department through the Center for Innovation in Mathematics, Physics, and Computational Theory (IMPACT).

The successful candidate is expected to perform high-level theoretical research at the interface of theoretical physics and AI. They will work primarily with James Halverson and Fabian Ruehle and become a Junior Investigator at the NSF AI Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions (IAIFI), where they will participate in IAIFI activities and interact with scientists from Harvard, MIT, and Tufts.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD in theoretical physics or a related subject at the start of their contract. Candidates with experience in string theory and AI are especially encouraged to apply.
