About the position
Description of the Research Group The research group for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease – Genetic Epidemiology conducts clinical/epidemiological research in diet, genes, gut microbiome and their connection to type 2 diabetes and other cardiometabolic diseases. Research has been at the forefront of the field of diet, multifactorial genetics and gut microbiota for several years. The group is led by Professor Marju Orho-Melander and consists of both research and technical staff. The activities are located at the Clinical Research Center (CRC) in Malmö. Read more on the University’s website about being employed at Lund University: Work with us Work duties and areas of responsibility We are looking for a driven research engineer to assist researchers and students in the research group with genetic and bioinformatic analyses of genome wide association data, gut microbiome- and other omics data, and clinical data. Qualifications Requirements for this position: MSc in medical sciences, public health sciences or equivalent. Knowledge and documented experience in epidemiological and genetic/epigenetic analyses and research on type 2 diabetes or related cardiometabolic diseases. Documented programming and statistical analysis skills in both R and Python. Documented experience in analyzing large complex data sets with advanced analysis methods. Experience in working with molecular, clinical, epidemiological and/or lifestyle related data and integrating information from different data sources. Documented experience in summarizing and presenting results in a reproducible report including publication-ready tables and figures, and writing scientific articles. Great importance will be placed on personal qualities. The tasks require that you have good collaboration skills that fit in an interdisciplinary team, that you are self-motivated, flexible and can work independently in a well-documented manner. Other personal qualities required are that you are easy to take initiative, are flexible and have good communication skills. Desirable Qualifications: Experience in scientific data communication of complex quantitative results. Understanding of clinical research questions, experience of patient-facing work and/or clinical education (medical doctor, nurse or other) Additional Information This is a speciall fixed-term employment (SÄVA) for the period 2026-12-01 until 2027-04-30 , at 100 % full-time.
