Tenured Engineering Education Faculty in Materials Science and Engineering

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York invites applications for a tenured engineering education research faculty position (associate or full professor) in materials science and engineering (MSE).

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in materials science and engineering, or a closely related field, or STEM education. Candidates must

  • have an exceptional track record of engineering education research;
  • lead a program of externally funded, internationally recognized research in engineering education;
  • have demonstrated ability to teach courses in the core materials science curriculum;
  • demonstrated commitment to mentorship and advising of undergraduate and graduate students.

In 1868, Ezra Cornell wrote, “I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study.” To continue to meet our educational, research, and service goals, and to meet our commitment to our founding principle, we are seeking faculty members who share our historical commitment to pursuing knowledge for “…any person …in any study.” Senior candidates with exceptional accomplishments in engineering education research, teaching, and graduate student mentorship are encouraged to apply. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Cornell has a growing community of scholars engaged in Engineering Education Research (EER) and Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER) across the sciences and engineering. The recently established Duffield Engineering Education Research Institute provides a community for and an institutional investment in research, collaboration, and action. The Institute focuses on how engineers learn, how innovation can shape educational systems, and how evidence can be used to improve teaching, learning, and the professional formation of engineers.

Pay Ranges: $99,200 - $357,300

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
