Position Description
The Leinweber Institute for Theoretical Physics (LITP) at the University of Chicago invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowships to begin in the Fall of 2027. Candidates must apply via Academic Jobs Online by November 1, 2026 to receive full consideration. A small group of outstanding candidates will be interviewed in November and December.
The LITP was founded to advance the study of theoretical physics in all its breadth. Fellows will join an intellectual community distinguished by an unusual level of interaction across traditional boundaries. Current research at the LITP spans particle physics, quantum field theory, condensed matter physics, gravitation, and string theory, with frequent cross-pollination among these areas and with neighboring fields. Fellows will have the freedom to pursue their own research directions while engaging with a department that fosters collaboration and values the interplay of diverse perspectives and methods.
The appointment will be at the internal University rank of Postdoctoral Scholar, which is open only to those individuals who are less than seven years beyond attainment of the Ph.D. degree. There are no teaching responsibilities associated with this position. The University of Chicago participates in the Exchange Visitor Program and will facilitate the granting of visas to international applicants. The expected annual salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000.
