The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical department with around 250 employees and over 900 people affiliated via Uppsala University Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in a variety of areas. Research takes place in close connection to the clinical activities at Uppsala University Hospital and includes both basic studies on the causes of diseases as well as the development and evaluation of improved diagnostics and new treatments. Within the research group 'Experimental Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience' (ECAN), led by Associate Professor Malin Gingnell, emotions and cognitive processes are studied from a neurobiological perspective. The work uses experimental psychology in the lab, online, and in combination with various brain imaging techniques (PET, MRI, EEG) to explore behavior and neurobiology in both healthy individuals and in different clinical populations. In a series of research projects, we have explored how the placebo effect develops and affects the treatment of various conditions. In the current project, we focus on an experimental pain model and work with collecting psychophysiology data, EEG data, and using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in a lab setting. There are also tasks related to data collection in other projects within the research group. Requirements For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level. Personal skills like independence, flexibility, and perseverance, along with the ability to collaborate, are valuable. Good knowledge of English is extremely important, and the role requires a good ability to communicate in Swedish. Additional qualifications For the position, a background in experimental neuroscience, with experience in independently conducting psychological experiments, is considered an asset. Experience with psychophysiological measurement methods, EEG, and TMS is also a plus. Great importance is also placed on other practical research experience, especially if it includes working with participants in a clinical setting. About the employment The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12. The position is 40% and work mainly takes place in the afternoons/evenings and on weekends, but mornings can also occur. Start date as soon as possible by agreement and until June 30th 2027.
